“This step is in line with what the president said before the elections, namely that he would entrust the mission of forming the government to the winning party,” said Prof. WPolityce.pl. Henryk Domański, sociologist, Polish Academy of Sciences.
The sociologist commented on President Andrzej Duda’s decision to entrust the mission of forming a government to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the post of senior marshal to Marek Sawicki.
All the surprises, criticism and comments from the opposition are incomprehensible. They conclude that the election results are not in line with expectations, and that the president’s decision will not allow them to form a coalition more quickly
– Domański noted.
In making this decision, the president was guided by the fact that PiS is a homogeneous and predictable party in terms of its program. One that guarantees stability and has proven itself in governance since 2015.
– he emphasized.
Chaos in the opposition
The same cannot be said about parties that want to form a government. We are dealing with chaos, program inconsistency and disagreements over positions. This does not bode well. The president’s decision makes sense
– said the sociologist. Will Marek Sawicki, as senior marshal, encourage other PSL and PiS parliamentarians to reach an agreement?
Opposition politicians may have suspected that the appointment of Marek Sawicki as senior marshal was a gesture of encouragement to PSL. Marek Sawicki has always been very conciliatory towards PiS. This decision could have consequences for a large number of PS MPs
– noted the professor. Which arguments will prevail?
The whole problem is whether PSL is able to give up its coalition with PO in favor of a coalition with PiS. Logically it is evenly distributed. PSL would acquire more positions to fill Morawiecki’s government than in a coalition with the opposition. There are too many candidates there. On the other hand, accusations of betrayal and abandonment of principles should be refuted.
