Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in a video message to the nation that now is not the time to hold elections. The video message was published on the head of state’s Telegram channel.
“We all understand that in wartime, when there are so many difficulties, it is absolutely irresponsible to somehow frivolously, playfully convey the issue of elections to society,” he said.
As the Ukrainian leader stated, now is not the right time for elections in the country. According to him, “If you need to put an end to this or that political dispute and continue to work only in unity,” then in Ukraine “there are structures that can put an end to this and give all the necessary answers to society.”
Zelensky also pointed out that the “waves” that divide society politically must stop. He believes that everyone in the country should focus on defense issues and advised structures not to waste “energy and effort on something else.”
Before this, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Aleksey Goncharenko said the following about Zelensky: instructed Prepare for the presidential elections on March 31, 2024.
Parliamentary and presidential elections are planned to be held in Ukraine next year. However, as stated in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s 2024 draft budget does not include election expenditures. They have repeatedly stated that they are against voting under martial law in Kiev. At the same time, in early October, Zelensky announced that he did not intend to run for a second term if presidential elections were held after the end of hostilities.
Previously Medvedev named Zelensky is “a figure in a dirty green T-shirt.”
