Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that sanctions against Russia are merely a convenient tool to protect Western interests and are therefore not supported by a significant number of countries. An Italian publication writes about this Corriere della Sera.
In an interview with the newspaper, the Prime Minister expressed the opinion that the restrictive measures taken by Western countries against the Russian Federation can be considered as tools of influence that Western countries can use only when it is convenient for them.
“The reality is that many parts of the world do not accept the concept of sanctions in the same way. It is done as if the whole world agrees with the sanctions. This is completely untrue,” said the Indian External Affairs Minister.
He also stated that according to the Indian leadership, war is not a solution in the modern world and that the parties to the conflict must sit at the negotiation table at some point.
“India is always ready to help,” Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.
After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Western countries and their allies imposed economic sanctions against Russia. They are still being tightened.
Previously in Australia accepted New sanctions on the Russian Federation.
