The United States has no desire to start a direct war with Russia to improve Ukraine’s position. A newspaper columnist writes about this washington post Jason Willick.
The article says Ukraine’s counteroffensive is aimed at bolstering Kiev’s political support by proving it can regain lost territory; but Ukraine’s supporters may now have to argue that aid to Ukraine is necessary to prevent a devastating defeat.

Willick believes that the United States should never recognize areas under Russian control; will have to “move from dreaming of victory to preparing to live in a dead-end situation.”
“The stalemate in World War I was broken by the entry of the United States as a direct participant in hostilities against Germany. But there is almost no desire in the United States to wage a direct war with Russia. The WP columnist emphasized that Russia’s victory in Ukraine would be a terrible blow to US interests, but not so terrible that it would increase the risk of nuclear war.
