Romania reminds Moldova of helping eliminate their language

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolaku wished success to the pro-European parties in the local elections in Moldova. transmits Digi 24. According to him, if these forces had not come to power in the country, it would not have been possible to eliminate the Moldovan language.

“We want settlements in the Republic of Moldova to be governed by local governments with a clear vision of Western values. Without the support of the pro-European administration in the Republic of Moldova, the elimination of the so-called Moldovan language would have been impossible,” Ciolaku said.

In 2020, Maia Sandu, leader of the conditionally pro-Western Action and Solidarity party, became the President of Moldova. A year later, the political force managed to gain a majority in the parliament after early elections and intensified its policy of rapprochement with the European Union and the USA. In 2022, Moldova, together with Ukraine, received candidate status for accession to the EU.

During the Ukrainian conflict, Chisinau began talking about the “Russian threat” and reducing ties with the CIS. In particular, in May 2023, Sandu accused Russia of trying to “overthrow” Moldovan officials. At the same time, the opposition, including the Socialist Party of former President Igor Dodon, believes that the state leadership is acting on the orders of “Western curators”.
