“Looking at the announcements of politicians who will form a new coalition, we can hope that the government that awaits us will not be so bad. I am already explaining this surprising statement,” Sławomir Mentzen, a member of parliament and one of the leaders of the Confederation, began his contribution about the opposition coalition.
This government doesn’t have to be tragic because it won’t be able to do much. It seems that conservatives will block the moral ideas of the left, and liberals will clash with socialists. As a result, the government will no longer be able to move in any direction. Well, what issues can this conservative-progressive and liberal-socialist coalition agree on? Moreover, this coalition consists of three coalitions. We have the Third Way, consisting of PSL and Hołownia, we have the Left, consisting of SLD, Wiosna Biedroń and Razem. We also have KO, including PO, Nowoczesna, Zieloni and Inicjatywa Polska. How do you deal with such a group?

Sławomir Mentzen pointed out a number of contradictions between the current opposition parties that want to form a government together.
A new EU treaty that takes away our right of veto? The Left is for it and PSL is against it. Taxes? The left wants to increase them and the liberals want to decrease them. Flats? Some want the state to build them, while others want to help banks and developers with a 0% loan. On the issue of morality, we have a complete conflict because PSL, strengthened by conservatives expelled from PO, is on a completely different side of the dispute than the Left. There too, opinions are divided about the nuclear power plant, agriculture, benefits, labor law and many other issues. The list could go on and on
– he emphasized.
The coalition partners agree on one thing: PiS must be held accountable and the rule of law must be restored. I would really like to see at least a few PiS members go to jail, but looking at the previous settlements, I don’t have much hope. As for the rule of law, the announcements made so far indicate that we will cure the plague of cholera, and that the rule of law will exist if we control them, not them.
– he pointed out.
“There will be urges and attempts to rule through regulation.”
Mentzen pointed to the new coalition’s inability to introduce new laws.
But all this is just the beginning of the problems. Let’s assume that by some miracle the coalition partners come to an agreement on some issue and manage to agree on something together. This is the moment when President Andrzej Duda comes into play and his veto power, which the new coalition of votes cannot override. The president does not have to veto the bill. He can send it back to the Constitutional Court, which is also controlled by people appointed by PiS. This means that no revolution should be expected until 2025. There will be urges and attempts to rule through regulation
– He wrote.
The Confederation politician noted that more clashes within the coalition can be expected during the presidential elections.
The 2025 presidential elections pose another problem. Hołownia, Kosiniak-Kamysz, someone from the left will want to run for these elections, and Tusk or Trzaskowski from the Platform. Each of them will have to somehow distinguish themselves from the other candidates and demonstrate their agency, which will further rock this unstable ship of government.
– he pointed out.
Of course, it would be best if the Polish government could turn the country in a sensible direction, but let’s admit that with the left on board, this is completely impossible. So I definitely prefer a government that can’t do anything to a government that would take us to places no right-thinking person would ever want to go.
– he said.
