The Palestinian Hamas movement agreed to evacuate the wounded from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah checkpoint on the Egyptian border in exchange for the evacuation of foreigners from the Palestinian territory, but the deal fell through. This was stated by the representative of the movement, Osama Hamdan, as quoted by the TV channel. Al Hadath.
“We agreed to evacuate foreigners in Gaza in exchange for the transfer of injured Palestinians from the Rafah border gate to Egyptian territory, but Israel violated the agreement,” he said.
Osama Hamdan believes that the Rafah checkpoint on the Egypt-Gaza border should be fully opened. He also asked the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Health Organization (WHO) for their staff to “accompany ambulance crews transporting injured Palestinians.”
Before that, the Palestinian radical movement Hamas reported Families of those taken hostage in the October 7 attack state that the Israeli government rejects the prisoner exchange.
Hamas had previously stated: will be free foreign hostages “when conditions permit.”
