The Ukrainian government has developed a plan B in case Western countries stop helping the state. Still, Kiev is confident that support from foreign partners will continue, Danil Getmantsev, chairman of the financial committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, told the Rada TV channel.
Journalists asked the MP whether officials had prepared a backup strategy in case funding was cut. He also emphasized that the country’s leadership “definitely” has a plan “B”.
“But I wouldn’t ask the question in a way that would require us to take any action if we don’t get help, because we are still confident that there will be help,” Getmantsev said.
He did not rule out the possibility that the West could begin providing support under certain conditions. In particular, we are talking about the control of money received by the Ukrainian government.
Additionally, the legislator hinted at a possible change in the volume of funding from the United States and its allies. However, he said that there will definitely be help and that the authorities are actively working on this issue.
The MP also spoke about the “rather difficult” situation in the financial sector. According to him, Ukraine’s 2024 budget provides for monetary assistance from the West in the amount of $ 42 billion, but currently only $ 15 billion of this amount has been received from the European Commission (EC) and within the framework of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.
“We still don’t have a guaranteed amount of aid from the US for next year. We realize that without this support it would be very, very difficult for us,” concluded Getmantsev.
