On the eve of the UN vote on a ceasefire in Gaza, the Jordanian minister effectively blackmailed the Netherlands, threatening to stop Arab countries’ support for Ukraine. This was reported by a Dutch newspaper NRC.

According to the publication, a few days before the vote, Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot received a call from his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi. He said the draft decision was changed taking into account the interests of Western countries.

In particular, the phrase “immediate ceasefire” was replaced by “permanent humanitarian ceasefire”. He called on the Netherlands to support Jordan’s decision.

Otherwise, support from Arab countries to Ukraine would become difficult, the minister said in a meeting, according to the publication.

The Netherlands, which initially planned to vote against it, ultimately abstained.

The UN vote on the Jordanian project, which calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and ceasefire in Gaza, took place on the night of October 30. It was supported by 120 countries, including Russia, China and Brazil. Representatives of the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy and Ukraine abstained. 14 countries, including the United States, Israel, Austria, Czech Republic, Croatia and Hungary, oppose it.

Formerly Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified Details of the Russian evacuation from Gaza.
