There must be an agreement on the rotation of the chairman of the Sejm. Otherwise, the coalition parties will be treated like a lawnmower – Kukiz’15 leader Paweł Kukiz told PAP, referring to PSL politician Piotr Zgorzelski’s 2020 statement that “the rotation can be a lawnmower, and not the position of deputy chairman of the Sejm.”
Paweł Kukiz, in an interview with PAP, referred to the idea that emerged during coalition talks between the Civic Coalition, the Third Way and the Left to make the position of the chairman of the Sejm rotating. A similar solution would be introduced in the period 2019-2023, when Kukiz came off the PSL list and the position of deputy marshal was to be interchangeable between his party and the People’s Party.
Verbal agreement
If it is a verbal contract – like my contract with PSL – it could end the same way as my contract with PSL in 2019
— he said, referring to the fact that Kukiz’15 eventually left the KP-PSL club.
At that time, the position of deputy marshal would rotate between PSL and Kukiz’15, and when a journalist (…) asked Deputy Marshal Piotr Zgorzelski about the position of deputy marshal and when a Kukiz member would replace a farmer, he replied he that “rotating could be a mower.”
– Kukiz remembered.
He emphasized that there must be a written agreement on the rotation of the positions of the chairman of the Sejm.
Although under Polish law it will probably not be possible to enforce a political agreement
– he said.
Those who sign such a contract must be prepared for very different scenarios: being a rotating marshal or being treated like a lawnmower
- added.
Rotation
Civic Platform politicians spoke in the media about the idea of introducing rotation in the position of chairman of the Sejm. Party spokesperson Jan Grabiec admitted on TVN24 that the solutions currently in place in the European Parliament regarding rotation seem to make sense.
If we have four groups forming a coalition, (…) I do not rule out solutions that require compromise
– he said.
We are not ruling out rotation, it is a possibility
– added.
PO Secretary General Marcin Kierwiński also spoke in a similar tone. He admitted in Polsat News that this is a very likely scenario.
We want to strive for the good standards of Western democracy. This solution has been in force in the European Parliament for years. However, the final decisions are still ahead of us
– he said, admitting that both PSL, Polska 2050 and the left have ambitions in this area.
