Prime Minister Fiala said he understood the outrage over the adoption of a UN resolution that did not condemn Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel. He stressed that the Czech Republic will continue to promote its position at the UN and convince other countries that their position is correct. According to him, it is important that the Czech Republic’s voice is heard at the UN.
The demand to leave the UN was also rejected by other Czech politicians, including Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky.
On Friday, in the vote on the resolution submitted by Jordan on behalf of the Arab countries, which called for a humanitarian ceasefire but did not condemn Hamas and did not affirm Israel’s right to self-defense, the Czech Republic voted against the project, as did Israel, the US, Austria and eleven other countries. Poland and 44 other countries abstained. The resolution was supported by 120 countries.
