The head of the Polish Development Fund was a guest at the morning lecture of RMF radio. Paweł Borys assured that the state of Polish public finances is good.
The patient is healthy. Of course he is a bit tired, he could eat better and work on his fitness, but the state of the public finances is absolutely good
– said Boris.
I am an economist and I can refer to such independent assessments. There are rating agencies, which are global organizations that professionally assess the credibility of government finances. Rating agencies have upgraded their assessment of the credibility of Poland’s public finances to the so-called EN- over the past six years. They are a team of four plus people and they also have such a stable perspective. It can be positive, negative and stable
– he argued.
He also spoke about the negative consequences for Poland of threatening people with the allegedly poor state of public finances.
There are many such statements nowadays. I get the impression that they are being political and pointing out that things were very bad. This is due to the fact that the current government actually had a plan: it spent a lot on social programs and significantly increased defense spending, from PLN 50 billion a few years ago to more than PLN 150 billion. And indeed, in these public finances there is not much room to further reduce taxes or increase additional spending. If the campaign of 100 details (of the Civic Coalition – editor’s note) means an expenditure of PLN 100 billion, it is simply very difficult to reconcile this now
– he said.
Paweł Borys also believes that Poland needs such serious investments as CPK or the construction of nuclear power plants.
I absolutely believe that if we want to play in the first economic competition, we must implement such important projects as the transformation of the energy system by building at least two nuclear power plants. In the same way, CPK can be a kind of Gdynia founded in the interwar period, a window on the world. It can modernize transportation infrastructure. It’s not just that we don’t have to fly far away via Frankfurt or London. This also includes investments. This is the turn, we all buy online these days, so there are also a lot of packages flying. A good transport infrastructure is therefore the basis for a modern economy and at the same time good business operations
– he said.
The opposition promises
The head of the PFR then referred to the opposition’s election promises.
There is not much room in these public finances to cut taxes or increase additional spending. If the campaign, in a hundred details, is an expenditure of PLN 100 billion, it is simply very difficult to reconcile this now
– he said.
In my opinion there is not 100 billion, so for all the expenditure that is promised at this moment, because it would mean that the deficit grows to a quite dangerous level, so choices will have to be made
– added.
