This is not a good time for changes in the DNA and structure of the European Union – said the leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, on RMF FM on Thursday, referring to the proposal to change the EU treaties.
Changes in treaties
The politician was asked whether the price for unblocking funds from the KPO would be agreeing to changes in the structure of the EU.
I don’t think these will be related issues. The discussion in the European Union continues. (…) From our point of view, this is not a good time to make fundamental changes to the DNA and structure of the European Union
– said Hołownia.
Today we find ourselves in a situation of external threat. We have a very clear voice. The geopolitical situation we have; elections in Slovakia; the situation in Germany with AFD as it is. If we now +spark+ the debate about the veto and the majority in the European Union, we will give powerful fuel – and that is really not needed today – to organizations and parties that will talk about Polexit and that the EU is useless.
– added.
The politician noted that the time for such discussions will certainly come, but “the decision should be made in slightly calmer times.”
The European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFEC) voted on Wednesday to adopt a report recommending changes to the EU treaties. Twenty committee members voted in favor of the report, six were against.
The main changes proposed are the abolition of the principle of unanimity in EU Council voting in 65 areas and the transfer of powers from Member State level to EU level, including: by creating two new exclusive EU powers – in the field of environmental protection and biodiversity (Article 3 TFEU), and a significant extension of shared competences (Article 4), which would cover eight new areas: foreign and security policy, border protection, forestry, public health, civil protection, industry and education.
““It’s a sinking ship situation.”
We must finish the composition of the government and the coalition agreement as soon as possible – said the leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, on RMF FM on Thursday. It should be a partnership – the largest partner is responsible for the government, the second for the Sejm, the third for the Senate, and then there is a team – he said. We have meetings planned in the coming days, he said.
We hope that the President will not delay the appointment of our common majority candidate – Donald Tusk – as Prime Minister, so that the work can begin.
– said one of the leaders of the Third Way.
He added that Mateusz Morawiecki “absolutely does not have a majority.”
It’s a sinking ship situation. The ship is sinking, the sailors see it and the captain says he understands, there is a plan B and everything will be fine
– he said.
He reported that after the meeting with President Andrzej Duda, he assumed that he was actually considering appointing Donald Tusk as Prime Minister as a first step.
I assume this is a scenario that is actually taken into account. I estimate the probability of this scenario to be less than 50%.
– said Hołownia.
The president has sent a clear signal today: I want to see the government, I want to see the coalition agreement. I think that we must respond to this challenge from Mr. President and complete the composition of the government and the coalition agreement as soon as possible, so that no one doubts that Donald Tusk must be appointed as a first step, in order not to waste time ,
– emphasized Hołownia.
We have meetings planned for the coming days. Although we want the coalition agreement to be public, not all conversations will be public, because we want to talk in peace.
– added.
The politician said that “the current government is set up in an absurd way, because it was created under deputy ministers so that as many MPs as possible could be crammed in.”
It may be necessary to rearrange these blocks of government administration and departments, but I am not convinced that this needs to happen now. Maybe we’ll start with the formula they left and quickly tweak it
– he said.
Hołownia a marshal?
When asked if he would be the chairman of the Sejm, Hołownia replied that he did not know; the Sejm would decide on this at its meeting on November 13.
We of the Third Way assume that the Poles voted for a team, for a team, and none of us, although some are stronger and some weaker, have given a full mandate to take responsibility for the state on our own. to take.
– Hołownia noted.
When asked if he wanted to become marshal, the politician said that “at this point it doesn’t matter what name there is, what matters is fixing parliament.”
If the Sejm were to entrust me with such a mission, I would accept it with joy. Whether he will entrust me with such a mission or whether I will be a candidate (…) – we will decide together. They certainly won’t throw Rejtan, other solutions are possible
– he said.
The Sejm, he emphasized, “must stop being a party stronghold on an unreachable mountain.”
It needs to be +debarred+. You have to invite people. (…) It must be a place that Poles will associate with talks, reaching a compromise and civic activity. It must be ventilated
– said the leader of Polish 2050.
It is not enough to change the government. Parliament must change for Poland to change. We believe that it should be a partnership: the largest partner is responsible for the government, the second partner for the Sejm, the third for the Senate. Then there is a team
– emphasized Hołownia.
“The issue of abortion will not be a subject of the coalition agreement.
When asked about changing regulations on abortion, the Polish 2050 politician said that “women should stop being afraid of bearing children and becoming pregnant.”
There are things that can be done through the National Health Fund, through regulations from the Minister of Health, so that doctors will not be afraid in situations where there is a clear threat to the mother.
– he pointed.
When it comes to laws, in our opinion we should return as quickly as possible to the status quo ante (the previous state of affairs – PAP), i.e. what was before the judgment of the Constitutional Court
– he said.
We must prepare and hold a referendum as soon as possible. (…) The issue of abortion will not be a subject of the coalition agreement
– Hołownia noted.
