Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo rejected the European Commission’s demands to increase contributions to the common budget, which would be allocated to supporting Ukraine and migration management.
According to the head of the Belgian government, these expenditures are necessary, but the resources must be sought elsewhere.
What is on the table today is unacceptable to us
– said De Croo before the start of the European Council meeting in Brussels.
Focusing on continued support for Ukraine is the right thing to do. But when it comes to the way we finance, we ask the Commission and other institutions to look at their own resources, at those that are underutilized and think about prioritizing their spending rather than asking Member States for more to contribute.
– emphasized the Prime Minister of Belgium.
Changes in the EU budget will be one of the topics of discussion between EU heads of state and government.
