“I remember how Bronisław Komorowski wanted to settle in the presidential palace very quickly after the Smolensk disaster. And he did it. These are very bad habits. Common sense and delicacy must prevail and, above all, all conversations must be conducted in a good tone,” said Stanisław Karczewski, PiS senator, in an interview with wPolityce.pl.
wPolityce.pl: What could be the result of political parties’ consultations with the president? What will Law and Justice be able to achieve?
Stanisław Karczewski: We won the elections and received the most votes. I think it is normal for the winning party to try to form a government. According to the information I have received, they are taking place even if I do not participate in the conversations. And conversations should be had in silence and peace. Not like it was in 2005, when the Civic Platform participated in the elections together with Law and Justice and intended to create a PO-PiS government, a post-Solidarity government. This did not happen. PO then wanted to talk to cameras. I remember their reservation. It is better to talk in silence and peace. We’ll see what the effect will be. I am moderate, but still an optimist.
How should we assess the opposition movement just before the talks in the presidential palace, when it was announced that there was an agreement and the willingness to take over the government?
I think it’s very bad. Mr. President should not be rushed or threatened. There should be no pressure on the president. This is an absolutely undemocratic and unjustified action. After all, the president will not shorten the term of the four-year parliament. Whatever happens suddenly be damned. You must speak calmly. It should be so. This is what democracy looks like. There is no pressure on any state or constitutional body. This action does not bode well for the future.
Other agencies, if not liquidated like the CBA, will also be taken over soon. Will the opposition clean up?
I hope it never comes to that. I’m not a historian, but again an anecdote from the past comes to mind. I remember how Bronisław Komorowski wanted to settle in the presidential palace very quickly after the Smolensk disaster. And he did it. These are very bad habits. Common sense and gentleness should prevail and above all all conversations should be conducted in a good tone.
