I will run for a new term as mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski announced on Polsat News. When asked whether he would later run for president of the Republic of Poland, he replied that it was too early to talk about that. The deputy head of the Civic Platform said in the program that the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau should be liquidated. “It has become so extremely politicized (…) that it is difficult to imagine anything else,” he attacked.
Trzaskowski wants to stay in the capital. What about 2025?
When asked whether he would like to run for another term, the capital’s president replied: “Yes, of course I will.”
I’m very proud of it. Moreover, I announced it many weeks ago, answering questions about whether I would be in the government that is being formed.
– he emphasized.
Trzaskowski pointed out that the elections will take place in April, so the next election campaign will likely start in late January.
When asked whether he would later run for president of the Republic of Poland, he emphasized that “it’s really too early to talk about that.”
We won the parliamentary elections, which were the most important for Polish democracy. Now we must win the local elections, because they are really extremely important to strengthen democracy in Poland. Then the European and presidential elections. All these choices are important
– said Trzaskowski
Attack on the CBA! “Extremely politicized”
Trzaskowski was asked on Polsat News whether the CBA should be liquidated.
Yes, because it was so extremely politicized – and we’ve seen in recent years that it was basically just carrying out police orders – that it’s hard to imagine anything else
– he emphasized.
In his opinion, the tasks of the CBA and the Bureau’s specialists can be taken over by the Police.
For example, when asked that Third Way representatives support the reorganization of the CBA, not its liquidation, PO’s deputy head responded:
We will see, but it is very difficult for me to imagine that (…) the image of this institution would be rebuilt.
According to him, the CBA’s credibility has been destroyed by PiS and – as he said – it is difficult to imagine any other institution, apart from public television or the prosecutor’s office, that has been “so extremely partisan”.
Trzaskowski also said that an investigative committee should be established in the new Sejm to check whether the opposition was wiretapped during the PiS government.
