For post-communist circles, the activities of the Institute for National Remembrance have been a thorn in the side from the start. The words of Włodzimierz Czarzasty perfectly fit the expectations of the Kremlin and all those who dream of building the future on historical amnesia – PAP told the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki.
“The Institute for National Remembrance is an institution we can be proud of.
I was concerned about today’s media statements by the co-chair of the New Left, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, calling for the liquidation of the Institute of National Remembrance. They are an expression of extreme nonchalance in the approach to important institutions of the Polish state. Without deep historical reflection it is impossible to build a conscious and secure future. The Institute of National Remembrance is an institution we can be proud of – unique in the world, employing not only outstanding historians and archivists, but also prosecutors, archaeologists and geneticists
– told the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, to PAP, commenting on the morning statement of New Left co-chair Włodzimierz Czarzasty.
Tzarzasty wants to liquidate the Institute for National Remembrance
On Monday, Włodzimierz Czarzasty said on TVN24 that “when it comes to the CBA, when it comes to the Institute of National Remembrance, I believe that these institutions should be liquidated.”
You have to look at it from the inside – I would liquidate it
– he pointed out.
Czarzasty recalled that the left did not vote for the creation of the CBA and the Institute for National Remembrance. At the same time, he emphasized that he would “not liquidate all the institutions that did dirty things one by one.”
I believe that if something is sick, it should be treated. For example, I am talking about public television
– he said.
Dr. Nawrocki: Czarzasty’s words perfectly match the Kremlin’s expectations
For post-communist circles, the activities of the Institute for National Remembrance have been a thorn in the side from the start. The demand to liquidate the Institute is not new, but this time it was made shortly after the parliamentary elections – from a politician who aspires to a position in the future government.
– indicated the president of the Institute of National Remembrance.
This coincides with the liquidation last year of the Memorial Association in Russia – a very prominent association for commemorating the victims of Soviet totalitarianism. It is difficult not to get the impression that Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s words perfectly match the expectations of the Kremlin and of all those who dream of building the future on historical amnesia.
– he emphasized.
Dr. Nawrocki emphasized that “historical truth cannot be eliminated” and that “Włodzimierz Czarzasty’s opinion pushes us to continue working hard for Poland,” he announced.
We regularly receive delegations from abroad – from the United States to South Korea – interested in our experiences in dealing with the grim legacy of two totalitarian regimes: German Nazism and Soviet Communism
– added Dr. Nawrocki.
