Arab League warns of risk of large-scale religious conflict over Gaza

Due to the crisis in the Gaza Strip, the world is in danger of being dragged into a global religious conflict. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS), stated this in his speech at the Cairo Peace Summit.

“We are very afraid of being drawn into a large-scale religious conflict that will lead to a global catastrophe for all humanity,” the politician emphasized.

To prevent a major war, the Arab League calls for an end to the bombardment of civilians in Gaza and for the immediate delivery of all necessary humanitarian aid to the region.

Previously, Gheit had called for an urgent solution to the issue of establishing a future Palestinian state.

The summit on the situation in the Gaza Strip is being held on October 21, at the initiative of Egypt. Representatives of more than 30 countries, including Italy, Cyprus, Greece, and participants of a number of international organizations arrived in the country’s capital. In addition to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, European Council President Charles Michel and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell are also present at the meeting.
