In the fourth episode of the program “Poisons of the Kremlin” of television wPolsce.pl, the topic of Russian interference in the parliamentary elections on the Vistula River was discussed. Host Jakub Maciejewski presented four techniques to influence Polish voters: hacking and data leaks, internet trolls, false leads and supporting specific politicians.
Maciejewski quoted the statement of the whistleblower of Russian manipulations, Canadian computer scientist Christopher Wylie, who spoke in the European Parliament about the first experiments with voters:
In 2015, AIQ received videos from Cambridge Analytica for distribution in Nigeria as part of a campaign to restrict voting in elections. These videos showed people being sadistically murdered, with the victims being held down while their limbs were amputated and their throats slit. In 2016, AIQ, the same company, received 40% of the quota to increase voter turnout during the referendum [w sprawie Brexitu]. Most of this money went to Facebook targeting.
An example of an internet troll was the Twitter profile of John Davis, who gained sympathy among American voters in 2016 and generated content developed by Russian disinformation centers.
Maciejewski pointed out the message of Grzegorz Rzeczkowski and Tomasz Piątek as false leads intended to divert attention from the problems of real Russian influence, the revelations of which were even made by their supporters – Nina Jankowicz (US disinformation expert) and Tomasz Lis – were not believed. .
The program also presented excerpts from a lecture by Mateusz Mrozek of the NASK Research Institute for the Ossendowski Institute, indicating content intended to inflame the emotions of Poland’s right-wing electorate. The presenter explained on behalf of whom the Russian Gorchakov Foundation works and which Polish politicians participated in the training of its activists from Moscow and St. Petersburg.
It’s worth seeing with your own eyes.
