On Monday in Brussels, Poland presented its position on the draft declaration for the summit in Granada, Spain, which will take place on October 6. According to information from PAP, the document wants, among other things, provisions on the instrumentalization of migration and references to the conclusions of previous EU summits on unanimity and voluntariness regarding migration. Warsaw also wants to add provisions regarding the challenges facing the common agricultural policy and the situation of European farmers.
The position of Poland’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, was presented on Monday during the meeting of ambassadors of the Member States to the EU.
According to PAP information, the Polish diplomat also pointed out the need to add to the summit’s draft declaration provisions on the role of cooperation with NATO, a socially just climate transformation and budgetary rules that take into account defense spending.
On migration, Poland wants – as PAP learned – a clear indication that we are dealing with a ‘hybrid attack’. According to Warsaw, the text should also indicate that the EU’s response to migration challenges must be immediate, and that Member States should not be left alone and without adequate support.
Sadoś is also said to have informed other ambassadors that the EU’s response to migration challenges should be based on flexible solidarity and that relocation should be voluntary. Such provisions should – as he should have indicated – also be included in the conclusions.
The Polish Ambassador also referred to the European Council conclusions of December 2016, June 2018 and June 2019, which discussed the voluntary nature of migration solutions and the need for unanimity in the process of their adoption.
