American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk on his social network page X (formerly Twitter) accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of trying to destroy freedom of expression in his country with the introduction of new regulations on online platforms that provide broadcasting and podcasting services.
“Trudeau is trying to destroy freedom of expression in Canada. Shameful,” Musk commented about the actions of Canadian officials.
The Canadian Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) announced new rules for streaming services and podcasts at the end of September. According to the innovations, online platforms with annual revenues of more than 10 million Canadian dollars (7.4 million US dollars) must register in the country by November 28 this year.
The explanatory note states that registration requirements apply to social networks and other online services.
