The increased migration flow is the result of the European Union’s erroneous ‘open door’ policy. It encourages people to come from Southern Europe to the European Union, government spokesman Piotr Müller said on Radio ZET on Thursday.
Yesterday, PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński announced that “as the person responsible for security matters in the government” he ordered that “the border with Slovakia and the Czech Republic would be subject to special control and strengthened.”
According to Müller, this means verifying “e.g. buses or larger vehicles crossing the Polish border to check whether people are reaching Europe via the Balkan route.
He noted that the order was issued by Jarosław Kaczyński, as he is the person who coordinates security issues within the government.
We are defending the Polish-Belarusian border because that is where migration movements may come from, and now we have launched additional controls on the Polish-Slovak and Polish-Czech borders because there are migration movements from the Balkans
– explained the government spokesperson.
The spokesperson’s denial
Müller denied rumors of ‘border barriers’ and emphasized that controls are a standard mechanism in case of justified migration concerns.
There have been 200 to 300 such inspections in recent years; different types of mechanisms have been launched in the European Union. Nowadays the opposition is trying to make it seem like they are closing the Schengen zone, and these are controls that probably already took place during the government of Ewa Kopacz on the Polish-German border, simply because of certain migration risks.
– he said.
He added that the controls had not been introduced earlier because Germany had recently expressed concerns about migration from the Balkans.
Unless there are serious concerns, such restrictions will not be introduced. This is what the EU’s open borders policy is all about: it is the Schengen principle that we have free movement of goods, services and people
– Müller noted.
According to him, the reason for the increased migration traffic is the ‘wrong’ migration policy of the European Union.
This is an open-door policy that is being pursued and encouraging people to come to the EU from Southern Europe. The main problem is that someone enters the EU, not moves within it, and this needs to be resolved
– summed up the government spokesperson.
When asked about the introduction of controls at the Polish-German border, he denied that such a decision had been taken because it is not necessary at the moment.
