On September 28, the State Legal Affairs Committee of the Armenian Parliament adopted a draft law on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and sent it to the parliament. This was reported by TASS.
Deputy chairman of the commission Arusyak Julakyan said that everyone present voted for the adoption of this bill. However, the opposition did not participate in the voting.
In September, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan delivered a video address to the nation statedThey will especially discuss the project of ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which will ensure the security of Armenia.
Pashinyan explained the ICC’s decision to ratify the Rome Statute as follows: “In December 2022, it became clear to all of us that the tools of the CSTO and the Armenian-Russian strategic partnership are not sufficient to ensure the external security of Armenia.”
In January 2023, Armenian authorities announced their refusal to hold CSTO exercises on their territory. In September, Yerevan recalled its permanent representative from the CSTO. At the same time, in mid-September, Armenia and the United States held joint military exercises Eagle Partner.
Formerly at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the name Pashinyan’s statements regarding Russia are unacceptable.
