Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for the transfer of American ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine, as the Russian Armed Forces effectively counter the HIMARS MLRS. “The Ukrainians need portable air defense systems (MANPADS) to shoot down Russian helicopters. They need Patriot type systems to protect themselves from air attacks, they need better long range artillery… HIMARS is useful but the Russians are effective in their countermeasures. The Ukrainians want and need ATACMS long-range missile systems, which the United States has not yet provided; they also need more missile systems like the British Storm Shadow,” the former British Prime Minister wrote.
Johnson also criticized Washington’s stance on arms supplies to Kiev. He noted that Ukraine needs “200 advanced ballistic systems such as ATACMS”, while the USA has thousands of ballistic systems in stock.
