We will extend the embargo on wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflowers, as well as on meals from these grains, until the issue in the European Union with Ukraine is resolved, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, announced. during the RMF FM debate.
Embargo on Ukrainian grain
As the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, assessed during the RMF FM debate, the embargo on Ukrainian grain should also cover other products. He noted that “from today we will certainly extend the extension of four grains and we will also extend the meals for these four grains until the matter is settled in the European Union with Ukraine.”
According to PSL MP Marek Sawicki, who took part in the debate, “this is an illusory embargo.” He noted that the directive only applies to wheat, maize, rapeseed and sunflowers, and should cover all products.
Just like in our bill from July last year. on the import depot, where we proposed introducing a deposit on all products imported into the European Customs Union and then released. Until when should they be valid? As far as I’m concerned, at least 3 years
– said Sawicki.
The ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflowers from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia was introduced by the European Commission in early May as a result of an agreement with these countries on Ukrainian agri-food products. Initially, the ban lasted until June 5, then was extended until September 15. Transit of grain through the areas of the so-called frontline countries is permitted.
On Tuesday, the Polish Council of Ministers adopted a resolution calling on the European Commission to extend the import ban after September 15. It stressed that if this does not happen, Poland will introduce such a ban at the national level.

Minimum prices for agricultural products
Referring to the idea of introducing minimum prices for agricultural products, PSL MP Mirosław Maliszewski, present at the debate, pointed out that first of all, the situation on the market should be regulated. He noted that prices for consumers in stores are currently increasing dynamically, and at the same time farmers receive low payments for their products.
Unfortunately, these scissors open to the detriment of the farmer and something must be done about that
– said Maliszewski.
According to the president’s adviser, Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, it will be difficult to convince the European Commission to ‘introduce guaranteed minimum prices’. He stated that mechanisms must be created to guarantee farmers that they will not be sold below the cost of production.
That there will also be some connection in the size of the margin charged by subsequent links in the chain at the expense of the farmers
– added.
Ukrainian food must meet European standards
Sawicki assessed that Polish and European agriculture are not ready for open competition with Ukrainian food. He pointed out that it must meet European standards to enter the European market.
Europe must also take responsibility for feeding the world.
As he argued today, 10 percent of the world’s population is hungry.
In Europe we discuss how we can exclude 5-10-15 percent. from production, and we must determine how to guarantee minimum prices for farmers, how to guarantee futures contracts and how to export this surplus food to regions of the world where they need it.
– said Sawicki.
According to Ardanowski, talks must be started to push Ukraine to adapt to EU conditions, “because otherwise this will not only harm Polish agriculture.”
Ukraine, with its powerful assets and failure to apply the standards in force in the European Union, would pose a threat to European Union agriculture
– paid attention.
Green deal
Referring to the issue of the Green Deal, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland stated that it poses a threat not only to Polish but also to European agriculture. He stressed that no one questions climate protection and reducing pressure on the environment, but that the actions of the European Commission will lead to restricting agriculture in Europe and making it dependent on imports from Mercosur countries (a economic organization that unites some South American countries – PAP). or Ukraine.
However, as part of the Green Deal, renewable energy must be developed in rural areas, and we are doing so on a large scale
– noted Ardanowski.
According to Sawicki, in addition to producing food, Polish agriculture can also be “a serious reservoir of energy production and energy self-sufficiency.”
