The Senate Special Committee on the Study of Russian Influences should not be created, this is the extraordinary hypocrisy of PO politicians; The PiS club absolutely does not delegate representatives to it, PiS senator Stanisław Karczewski told PAP. He added that such a committee could only function in the Senate until the end of this term.
On Wednesday, Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki announced that it would be possible to appoint an extraordinary Senate committee on Thursday to investigate Russian influence on the decisions of public authorities in Poland.
It will have seven members. The deadline for submission of candidates by clubs and circles is Wednesday at 22.00
Grodzki added. The Senate began its two-day session on Wednesday.
Earlier, Deputy Marshal of the Senate Marek Pęk (PiS) inquired about the plans to establish such a committee.
The majority in the Senate decided to set up its own special committee to investigate Russian influence on the decisions of the public authorities in Poland. Among other things, it will investigate the inefficiency of PiS in thwarting the construction of Nord Stream 2+. At the end of the term, we have Cabaret in the Senate
Pęk wrote on platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.
Images of the draft resolution on this issue are attached to the submission. The justification for the project emphasized that the appointment by the Senate of the Extraordinary Commission to Investigate Russian Influence on the Decisions of the Public Authorities in Poland is justified by the need for their analysis by a body operating in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. . If a special committee of the Senate is appointed, it has no investigative powers.
Asked by PAP about the appointment of an extraordinary committee, Karczewski said that “this is an extraordinary hypocrisy of senators and PO politicians who opposed the appointment of such a committee in the Sejm, saying it was only a very short time, that in the Sejm end of term, and they themselves did what they opposed.”
So this is the height of hypocrisy. I have not seen a greater event that can be described as such
noted Karczewski.
According to him, “the whole activity of the majority of the Senate of this term is to divide Poland.”
They want to divide into those who believe in the Platform and those who have a different opinion
said the PiS senator.
“anti-democratic action”
But – as he judged – “this is a very bad move, anti-democratic in fact.”
What can such a committee do? This is the third special commission used for partisan struggles; the Senate has become the party management center of Civic Platform
Karczewski said.
When asked whether the establishment of such a commission is legal, the senator replied that “the establishment of a special commission is theoretically possible, in accordance with the regulations”.
However, such a committee should not be created at all because the Senate does not constitutionally have such prerogatives to create investigative or investigative committees.
noted Karczewski.
They interpret the rules and the law as they please, and the entire Legislative Bureau of the Senate supports them. And this is the next scandal
said the PiS senator.
When asked if PiS would delegate its representatives to this committee, Karczewski replied “absolutely not”.
Since such a committee was appointed by the Sejm and it was possible for the PO club to send members to it, they did not. So we are certainly not delegating our representatives to such a committee, which will have the character of a partisan struggle
Karczewski said.
The PiS senator also said such a committee can only function in the Senate until the end of this term.
It is not a standing committee, but a special committee and therefore ends its activities at the end of its term of office
noted Karczewski.
On August 30, at the last meeting scheduled for this term, the Sejm appointed nine members of the Committee on Russian Influence on the Internal Security of the Republic of Poland in 2007-2022. They were all proposed by PiS, the opposition did not present their candidates and did not participate in the vote.
May 31 In 2007, on the initiative of PiS, the law on the establishment of a commission to investigate Russian influence on the internal security of the Republic of Poland in the years 2007-2022 came into force, which the president signed a few days earlier and announced at the same time that it would be brought before the Constitutional Court. On June 2, Andrzej Duda submitted a draft amendment to this law to the Sejm. It passed on June 16, and on June 28, the delegates rejected the Senate’s objection to this amendment. The president signed the amendment on July 31. It came into force in August.
