The text states that, according to the concept, the reinforcement of the Latvian border should take place through the use of physical and technological solutions based on potential threats from the enemy.

Murniece said the border needs to be strengthened militarily, so it is necessary to analyze “what measures would be appropriate to restrict mobility in a given area.” The material says that we are talking about anti-tank tines, metal and concrete structures, as well as anti-tank mines.

He stressed that the creation of border infrastructure is within the authority of the Ministry of Interior, but his department also has ideas for improving and accelerating the process of strengthening the border.

“My vision and political stance is that border regulation should be completed before the end of this year. At the same time, anti-mobility measures need to be implemented throughout the Baltic region, ”said the head of the Latvian military department.

Prior to that, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland agreed on a mechanism for closing borders with Belarus in early August. Appropriate measures need to be taken in a “critical situation”. At the same time, Lithuania individually reduces the number of checkpoints on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. The Baltic states and Poland are exploring the possibility of closing the borders, as well as stopping the rail link with the Belarusian side.
