Indonesia, US begin multilateral military exercises

Indonesia, along with the United States and five other countries, is launching the Super Garuda Shield 2023 military exercise, which will run until September 13, according to Indonesian news agency ANTARA. The exercise will take place from August 31 to September 13 at various training sites in Indonesia. Military personnel from the USA, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Singapore, the UK and France will attend the event. The US Embassy in Indonesia said approximately 2,100 US and 1,900 Indonesian soldiers from various branches of the military will participate in the exercise. The event will include expert academic exchange, professional development workshops, command simulation, aerial exercises, aerial operations, airfield takeover exercises and joint field training and live shooting.

Garuda Shield exercises have been held annually since 2009 in a bilateral format between the USA and Indonesia. In 2022, Super Garuda Shield expanded to an international format for the first time.
