Aimani Kadyrova, mother of the Chechnya leader, and 10 other Russians were sanctioned by the US Treasury Department. The list is published on: area U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control.
So the list of sanctions included:
– Commander of the special police regiment named after Hero of Russia Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on behalf of Chechnya Zamid Chalaev;
– head of government of Chechnya Muslim Khuchiev;
– Chechnya Human Rights Commissioner Mansur Soltaev;
– head of the Sevastopol headquarters of Yunarmiya Vladimir Kovalenko;
– Rector of Sevastopol State University Vladimir Nechaev;
– the director of the international children’s center “Artek” Konstantin Fedorenko, as well as “Artek”;
— Belgorod Region Commissioner for Children’s Rights Galina Pyatykh;
– Elena Shapurova, Head of the Ministry of Education of the Zaporozhye region;
— Commissioner for the Rights of the Child of the Rostov Region Irina Cherkasova;
— Kaluga Region Commissioner for Children’s Rights Irina Ageeva.
Before the list was published, US President Joe Biden announced the sanctions. This included, according to him, Ukrainian children who participated in the “transfer”.
“Today we are announcing new sanctions to bring those responsible for forced displacements and deportations to justice and to demand the return of Ukrainian children to their families,” the president said.
Biden also congratulated Ukraine’s Independence Day, saying that the United States will continue to provide necessary assistance to Kiev.
Moscow’s reaction
The new restrictions were commented on by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on the Telegram channel. According to him, Artek was included in the list of sanctions for the preservation of traditional childhood and the idea of u200bu200bchildren in the camp:
“Now, if this were a gender reassignment camp for minors or a place to share the experiences of transgender communities, then Washington would fill it with multimillion-dollar grants, multi-year visas and all kinds of awards, including nominations.
And this is an educational complex in which a pure idea of u200bu200bchildhood and children is preserved, conditions for healthy recreation and development of children are created. Which of the propagandists of moral distortions could enjoy it!”
In July of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the story of the removal of children from Ukraine as “bloated.” According to him, Russia did not kidnap Ukrainian children, rescued them, drove them out of the war zone and there is no problem in their return to their homeland.
Thus, the Russian president once again denied the accusations of the Ukrainian side and Western countries, which have accused Russia of deporting children since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian leader has previously stated that Moscow is removing children “absolutely legally” from the war zone to save their lives and health. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Kiev’s statements about the forced deportation of children by Moscow as a “misrepresentation”.
In March, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin and children’s ombudsman, Maria Lvova-Belova, in connection with the “illegal deportation of children from occupied Ukrainian territory to Russia.” Moscow did not ratify the Statute of Rome and considers the court’s decision to be legally invalid. ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan and the judges of the body have been placed on the wanted list in Russia.
