What is happening at the University of Warsaw in the case of Oskar Szafarowicz is a major scandal.
But I don’t think that should surprise us.

The people who run UW for some odd reason think students should be punished for their political views. It is enough for someone to actively support PiS, and the UW will punish such a freak.
On the one hand this is absurd, but on the other hand it was predictable. Why? Well, precisely because the climate of antipis is already so strong in the intellectual circles of the Third Polish Republic that no logic or principles of common sense have anything to do with it.
This is evident from the example of Szafarowicz, but also from what happened on Campus Polska when the panel of symmetrists was disbanded. Both are examples of a culture of invalidation that the PO and its satellites enforce wherever they can.

Let’s hope that Minister Przemysław Czarnek’s reaction to the absurd decisions of the University of Warsaw will stop this political process. A trial in which the fate of a young PiS MP is decided by a professor who believes that PiS should be banned and that its constituents are ‘socially toxic’.

However, one thing is certain: if the PO wins the next election, a culture of invalidation will prevail in Poland, while the current censorship prevailing in parts of the Western academic community would resemble amateur work.
