Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that in the future, nine new automobile checkpoints will be opened at the border with European Union (EU) countries. The politician talked about it at a government meeting, reports TASS.

The head of the Council of Ministers noted that the development of border infrastructure remains one of the main areas of work. According to him, there are currently 21 checkpoints (checkpoints) for cars on the EU border, 13 of which will soon be modernized.

“There are plans to create nine more checkpoints,” Shmyhal said.

He added that most of the work will be done on the Polish border. The Prime Minister underlined that Kiev has agreed with Warsaw to provide a preferential loan of 160 million euros for the repair of roads and the replacement of equipment at checkpoints.

The head of government also announced his intention to develop joint customs and border control with the European Union. A pilot project will be implemented to create a checkpoint with employees from both states, especially on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

“Ukraine made a corresponding offer to the Romanian side,” added Shmyhal.
