Holding a referendum on Election Day increases the likelihood of it being binding. A certain turnout is needed for this, government spokesman Piotr Müller reported on Friday.
On Thursday, the Sejm passed a resolution to hold a nationwide referendum on October 15, i.e. on the day of parliamentary elections.
Demolish the dam?
The government spokesman was asked in Polsat News whether, if it was the will of the voters, the government would, for example, demolish the barrier at the border or raise the retirement age.
In the situation of a binding referendum, there is no choice, such decisions are made. However, I am deeply convinced that this is a security referendum, because the Poles are reasonable and know that the decisions we made were right.
Muller said.
The result of the referendum, he noted, is valid if more than half of the eligible voters take part in it.
The only way to achieve such a turnout in terms of the binding nature of the referendum is on Election Day. Other referenda, apart from the EU referendum, had no such turnout
noted the spokesman.
Referendum questions
Four questions will be asked in the referendum. The first reads:
Do you support the sale of state assets to foreign entities, causing Polish women and men to lose control of strategic sectors of the economy?
Second:
Are you in favor of raising the retirement age, including restoring the retirement age to 67 for men and women?
Third:
Do you support the removal of the barrier on the border between the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Belarus?
Fourth:
Do you support the acceptance of thousands of illegal immigrants from the Middle East and Africa under the forced relocation mechanism imposed by the European bureaucracy?
