On August 15, there are two extremely important holidays for Poland: the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Day of the Polish Army. Polish politicians referred to the issue of Christmas.
August 15 marks the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, which was victorious for Poland in 1920 and recognized by Edgar Vincent D’Abernon – a British politician, diplomat and writer – as the 18th breakthrough battle in world history. The victory of the Polish army ensured the preservation of the country’s independence and stopped the advance of the Bolshevik revolution into Western Europe. It was also one of the most important elements of the historical memory of the Second Polish Republic.
August 15 was declared Polish Army Day in 1923. He remained that way until 1947. Since 1992, Polish Army Day is celebrated again in mid-August.

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated in the church from the early 5th and 6th centuries under the name Dormition of the Mother of God, or Koimesis. The age-old faith of the Church was proclaimed in 1950 by Pope Pius XII in the form of a dogma.

In the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus (Most Generous God) of November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII proclaimed a dogma stating that “The Immaculate Mother of God, the Ever-Virgin Mary, having finished her earthly life, was adopted in body and soul to heavenly glory.”

The main politicians in Poland referred to the issue of two public holidays. The ambassador of the United States also sent his wishes to the Polish soldiers.
Battle lances, sabers in hand, chase the Bolshevik, pursuit, pursuit!
The feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on August 15, is one of the oldest and most important Marian feasts in the Catholic Church. Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for Poland and keep it under your care.
To all those who celebrate their holidays today – Polish soldiers – I wish you with all my heart a safe return home, to your loved ones, after all services, duties and missions. Every day you protect the world, for us – your families – you are the whole world.
On the day of the Polish Army Day, I wish all of us friends: soldier’s happiness, knight’s boots and ulan fantasy.
On the Day of the Polish Army and the 103rd anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, we laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Monument to Józef Piłsudski. We pay respectful tribute to the heroes and thank you for your devotion to the homeland.
Today is a big day – Day of the Polish Army. On this occasion, on behalf of the United States, I address words of great appreciation to the Polish soldiers. Military cooperation is a key element of our Polish-American relations. Our soldiers stand shoulder to shoulder to defend our freedom and our common values. You are our allies, friends, brothers and sisters in battle. The constant presence of American soldiers in Poland proves our commitment to Allied commitments. Together we are stronger.
For our Poland, August 15 is a celebration of the great Polish victory, a celebration of the greatness of the Republic of Poland, the greatness of the Polish army and the greatness of us as a nation, of which we are all extremely proud.
In 1920, the Poles repelled the invasion of Bolshevik Russia and defended Polish independence through the efficient building of a strong army. The whole nation supported the Polish army in its efforts, because without a strong Polish army there is no free and safe Poland. After 100 years, Russian imperialism still poses a threat to Poland and Europe. The Polish government undertook an unprecedented work of expanding and arming the Polish army. Polish soldiers receive the most modern equipment.
Power without freedom and justice is only violence and tyranny. Justice and freedom without force is talkative and childish – the words of Marshal Józef Piłsudski are extremely valid today, on the Day of the Polish Army, when a bloody war is unfolding on the doorstep. The heart rejoices when, after years of disarmament, we see the Polish army strong and ready to defend the fatherland. When a Polish soldier guards our borders to keep us safe. A strong “White and Red” is a guarantee of our freedom.
On the anniversary of the victorious Battle of Warsaw, I laid flowers at the monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski – the defender of Poland and Europe.
On August 15, on the anniversary of the Poles’ victorious struggle against Soviet Russia in 1920, we celebrate #PolishWojska Celebration. Today, in light of the war in Ukraine, state security has the highest priority. I want to thank our soldiers for their commitment, dedication and daily commitment to the fatherland. I am proud of Poland!
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Jan Matejko – 1875
We won! We defeated the Communist Soviet! Glory to the commanders and defenders of the fatherland in 1920! Long live Poland! Long live the Polish army! May the Immaculate Conception support Poland, the authorities of the Republic of Poland and all states! Poland! Poland only!
Miracle on the Vistula. The Bolshevik attack that threatened Europe was stopped by Poland, because in 1920 the Poles were ready to die in defense of their homeland. He embraced the fighters at the front with prayers in the churches and begged for Mary’s intercession. Today we will defend Poland in the same way with faith and love for God and our fatherland
