Szymon Hołownia’s reserve party – Nowe Centrum – which would serve as his backup party in Poland 2050 troubles, was removed from the records by the court.
According to Rzeczpospolita, “Backup” political parties in Poland are not a new or accidental institution. Confederate politicians who founded the Conservative Party can serve as an example here. Interestingly, the leader of Agrounia, Michał Kołodziejczak, boasts as many as four parties: law-abiding Poland, social movement Agrounia TAK, stable Poland, and social interest. Solidarna Polska is also a backup party for Zbigniew Ziobro and his milieu, as the Minister of Justice has registered a new one – Sovereign Poland.
Problems of Hołownia
The Poland 2050 spokeswoman was very puzzling about whether Szymon Hołownia had any other reserve parties.
Szymon Hołownia has not been and has never been a member of any party other than Szymon Hołownia’s Poland 2050
– she said.
Despite her assurances, it will be difficult for Szymon Hołownia to cut himself off from his reserve initiative, as the board of the now-defunct party contains the names of people associated with the former TVN journalist. According to information from “Rzeczpospolita”, two Pomeranian activists from the Polska 2050 Association are said to be with the authorities.
The registration process for Poland 2050 took more than a year. We’ve decided we need another formation just in case
– one of the Poland 2050 activists told Rzeczpospolita.
He also had to admit that the delegalization of the new center was considered a serious mistake in the Hołownia community.
A trivial reason
The issue of removing Nowe Centrum from the register of political parties is not complicated at all. The reserve party of Hołownia has submitted its 2021 financial report to the PKW after the deadline, and this obliges the PKW to ask the court to remove the party from the register. In addition, the activists of the New Center showed exceptional recklessness, because in 2021, the New Center did not carry out any activity, and in all columns of the report they showed zero.
The deregistration of Szymon Hołownia’s backup party is problematic insofar as Polska 2050 is running in the parliamentary elections in a coalition with PSL, counting on a budgetary subsidy, and its 2021 financial report was also rejected by the PKW. “Rzeczpospolita” reports that it is possible that history repeats itself in case of subsequent reports, because the parallel existence of the Polska 2050 Party and the Polska 2050 Association carries the risk of a lack of financial transparency of the Holownia environment.
No reflection
A direct threat to the Hołownia Party is also the decision to field candidates – together with the People’s Party – in the elections as part of a coalition for which the electoral threshold has been set at 8 percent. support. Konfederacja, for example, works much smarter, because it has brought together the entire conglomerate of parties and groups in an “umbrella” party called Konfederacja, which is why it is only allowed to exceed 5 percent. electoral threshold to enter the Sejm. In this context, Szymon Hołownia’s backup group could be extremely useful – it would be enough to change the name to Third Way and put politicians from Poland 2050 and PSL on their lists.
