Tusk’s July 14, 2023 performance at the Koszalin amphitheater perfectly reflects his infantile-business-Coelho style.
“Everyone knows about Donald Tusk’s very parsimonious handling of the truth. Just like his passion for brainwashing people and the incredible primitivism of equations and golden thoughts of Bakelite. Reforms cannot be counted on here, because the president of the Civic Platform is deeply in love with his way of functioning and expressing his opinion or whatever he says.
In recent weeks, the unbridled hunger for the enthusiasm of the audience is clearly visible, already sufficiently trained for the chef to get his “booster” from them at the right time and happiness appeared on his face. The style of his speeches is also always amusing: stuttering, polished statements that combine Paul Coelho’s golden thoughts, Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz’s moralizing and a movie bum (the real ones are much smarter), which is breakneck in itself.
Donald Tusk peaks as he takes on the stand-up role of a burnt-out cabaret, and the highest elation is easy to spot, because then he moves his lips (with lips closed), as if biting and swallowing something, which probably means that his own “wisdom” tastes very good to him . It’s just involuntary, untrained. However, it is trained to stop on the verge of tears when it comes to children and grandchildren. In general, one can get the impression that he lives only for his children and grandchildren – this is his universal lyrical subject. But if you read his wife Małgorzata’s book “Between Us”, it is difficult to find it in real life.
New in Donald Tusk’s performances is the progressive infantilization of Bakelite golden thoughts and forms of moralizing. Someone who is sensitive and has some elementary respect for his intellect should take offense as the addressee of golden thoughts, they are so artless, but the mechanism of leveling usually works in the crowd, so there is no objection to infantile dictates and equations.
Tusk’s July 14, 2023 performance at the Koszalin amphitheater perfectly reflects his infantile, bumbling and Coelho style. Here Tusk himself is not important as a creator, but his work, which after leaving the speech apparatus is no longer his property. And this work is sometimes worth deconstructing a little. A little bit, because cognitively it is not particularly attractive, and it can even be exhausting – as in Koszalin. It is a profane version of the once famous “Tea at the microphone”, only the skits are improvised and there are no songs. Only the compere remained (although it is certainly not Zenon Wiktorczyk, who was a theater and stage professional) and the audience.
Tusk, as a compere, has been very enthusiastic lately, setting up figures cut out of plywood in various places (so far holiday resorts). In the dictation, the head of the PO saw figures “with faces full of pride and complacency of the highest officials and activists of PiS and this authority”. This isn’t particularly apparent in the plywood, but Donald Tusk’s “complacency” can be seen in the performance. A little plywood and he’s happy.
Professional psychoanalysts (amateurs under the sign of sink psychoanalysis have a bunch) Tusk should be obsessed with the words “theft” and “thief”. Could this be the result of thinking about the fate of corrupt party members (these are the charges for which they were or were imprisoned), for example Sławomir Nowak, Włodzimierz Karpiński or Rafał Baniak? For the sake of balance, Tusk believes that a thief (that is, he is the beneficiary first and a thief in the end) is anyone who makes money in state-owned companies and can even be attributed to eating in the same restaurant as PiS politicians. “These are the amounts that really amaze the Poles,” says Tusk. By the same principle, about 7 million PLN, which were on Tusk’s account for his presence in Brussels, should be astounding. Presence, because it is difficult to call it work.
If a thief is someone who is politically connected in some way, then the same logic should apply to Donald Tusk as well. After all, he earned PLN 7 million (plus a great pension) just because he was associated with Angela Merkel (as the holder of the most important positions in the EU). He was rewarded with one of the best jobs around, for what he did or didn’t do at the behest of his supervisor.
When Tusk said in Koszalin that “all Poland sees how shamelessly they steal, (…) they steal from their own nation in broad daylight. They fill their pockets with our Polish money”, that is too modest. Again, with the logic from Tusk you could say that in the history of Poland in the 20th century, and maybe even throughout history, there is no competition in “robbing your own people in broad daylight” because if someone who is Prime Minister allows Poland to steal at least PLN 250 billion of tax revenue, then he is absolutely unparalleled chapeau bas Even the kings of Poland are retailers compared to such a person And we already have a reason to call others thieves.
Having deconstructed the concepts of “theft” and “thief”, it is now a song (symbolically) – as in a cabaret. The song will be Tusk’s argument that “goodness, truth, justice and respect for other people should once again become the basis of all Polish women and men.” It’s like “la la la la la” in a song when you don’t have anything specific to sing. Let’s also add that Poles apparently “don’t want to live in a country ruled by people who turn good into evil, respect into contempt, fairness into plain theft of power.” It’s like “bye, bye, bye, bye, bye”. And there is no one in Poland who would be less fit to sing a song Tusk spoofs so terribly.
The number in Koszalin was followed by a cascade of tiring sketches. Like that ‘when I was prime minister, public television was critical of me. It never occurred to me to check public television.” Too modest: Almost all the media were extremely critical of Donald Tusk, and especially the public, because “singing ‘100 years!’ they faked, and lying flat on their feet or kissing their feet, they were not as trained as those who in North Korea can arrange figures and pictures in stadiums and squares And if anyone did not want to practice it, then the ABW rightly arranged it .
In the next tiring skit, the PO chairman insulted the Poles, who are among the most advanced societies in terms of digitization and the use of technologies. You should have listened to the former head of Radio Tok FM, Ewa Wanat, who, while living in Germany, experienced how many years behind Polish women are Germans in this regard. And that’s where Tusk comes in with his sketch and tells a lot of nonsense like “30 percent. Poles ready to vote for PiS now only have access to TVP Info. Tusk (consciously) only has access to TVN and Gazeta Wyborcza, but Poles have access to everything. And they know how to use it (maybe the grandchildren will finally pick up Grandpa Donald?). And Donald Tusk no longer brainwashes himself and the listeners of his sketches, but pulp when he says that “TVP Info is brainwashing PiS voters by putting them in a cage and a dark bunker.” There is no one more pickled in the bunker, despite pretending to be a worldly man, than Tusk himself and his minions, which even in their language can be heard.
In a sketch about the church, Tusk humorously shone straight from the Soviet stage of the “satirical” magazine “Krokodyl”, saying that “today the lion’s share of the church is on the side of money”. And the Stalinist stage of “Crocodile” Tusk reached “jokingly” that “at present it is increasingly difficult to distinguish the church from the building of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party.” That’s probably why Tusk has liquidated the altar in his home and no longer wants to pretend to be a practicing Catholic in order to win the votes of believers.
In the “800 plus” sketch, Tusk joked that he himself (already as a politician, not a stand-up artist) “postulated an increase of the 500 plus since June” because “this nigger [Kaczyński] he tells people that he will give them an extra three hundred zlotys, but three months after the elections are over. I’m the one who won’t let him win the election just because he wants to fool us all.” Just to fool himself and his own followers, Tusk needs no help, because in this he is second to none. Especially when he openly admits that he owes the “500 plus” raise as help for children and families, and he’s only proposing it because he’s worried about the election. Tusk spoiled this skit by saying he checked Jarosław Kaczyński ” with his whining about “800 plus”, which left him “a little choked up politically”. Probably due to embarrassment on the level of Tusk’s sketches.
It has long been known that Tusk has embarrassing sketches about PiS in his repertoire. Apparently, to break the boredom and cliché, he decided to add some embarrassing skits about the Confederacy. The most “funniest” is the one about “pretending to be an opposition party” when you are a “PiS attachment”. Jokes about the Confederacy as a group of “children’s boxers” were distasteful, and in fact Tusk’s sketches using children to illustrate nonsense are always embarrassing and even mean. This is the kind of cabaret that has to end in a fight or – excusez le mot – general puking.
Two processes that take place simultaneously in Tusk’s performances stand out: brutalization and infantilization. One follows from the other. Infantilization means a form of primitivization, and the height of primitive is cruelty (mainly due to helplessness). Brutalization, in turn, limits the cognitive horizon, and infantilization is the simplest form of adaptation to this limited cognitive horizon. Unfortunately, these processes are progressing, so Tusk’s next sketches will be even more embarrassing. Because if you cross the line of embarrassment and embarrassment, the solution is seen in the fact that there will be even more embarrassment and embarrassment.
