Mayor of Olsztyn Grzymowicz will go down in history as a defender of the hangover. He is looking for allies for his paranoid jostling with the Minister of Culture, Prof. Piotr Gliński and the Voivode of Warmia and Masuria, Artur Chojecki. Community support for the remaining gallows in Olsztyn is becoming increasingly difficult, but there is another trusted friend here: Traba.
Traba’s last action in defense of the Olsztyn gallows ended in fiasco. So substantively, artistically, intellectually, ideologically and socially. It can be summed up in a nutshell: a great disgrace.
Let’s start with the “dove of peace” – a symbol presented by the defenders of the Soviet monument who took part in the rally on the gallows on July 12 this year. For many who remember the Peace Race, the pigeon is associated with a cycling race, which, during Soviet rule over the countries of Eastern Europe, was supposed to be a socialist response to the major cycling events held in Western Europe: Tour de France, Giro d’Italia or Vuelta España. In the west, disgusting professionals raced for money, and in our country, real amateur athletes raced for suckers. According to perverted communist ideology, the “dove of peace” was a communist symbol of the confrontation between western democracy and socialist democracy. Confrontation in every field: artistic, sporting, economic, cultural and finally political and military.
After all, in the name of the peace struggle, the Soviets invaded Poland in 1920 and 1939. Then to Finland. They went to Hungary in 1956. In 1962, they triggered the Cuban Missile Crisis, which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. They invaded Czechoslovakia (1968), Afghanistan (1978), settled in Africa and the Middle East. The entire economy of the Eastern Bloc was built for the needs of armaments. Today’s Russia continues its “peace dove” policy in Chechnya, Syria, Georgia and eventually the whole world noticed: it unleashed a bloody war in Ukraine.
Trabie and his kind don’t mind. They gather under the wings of a bird, which in this edition symbolizes crimes, lies, slavery and perversity. They can no longer invent anything new and draw directly from the models of communist propaganda. Similar are the slogans carried by the assembled people: History – Yes, Hate – No, Ideologisation – No. After all, they are quotes from banners carried at communist youth rallies in the 1950s. This time there was no “We will fight for peace to the last bullet”, “We cut off the hands of the reactionaries because they tarnished our progressive symbols.” They may appear next time. So this is the story and the intellectual stuff they’re after?!
Traba spins his visions of building an open-air museum on Dunikowski Square. He has been spinning them for many years, but even his great friend Grzymowicz completely ignores them, so there is no point in paying attention to them.
However, it is worth paying attention to the lie that Traba produced in full awareness. The weak point for the story of the monument’s defenders is the name. Both the names of “Liberation…” or “Gratitude…” appearing in official circulation are hard even for Traba to swallow. It is not appropriate for him to call the gallows gallows, because in his opinion this is a great work…
That is how he came up with the idea that it is a “monument of Dunikowski”. On one of the pylons is a giant figure in thick clothing, large boots, a hat with a sickle and a faded hammer. All topped with a stark, rough, granite-carved face. Except that Dunikowski was a short man with sharp features and didn’t like to dress bulky. So, even with a great imagination, and Traba will not find similarities. After all, Dunikowski was a very talented sculptor. If he wanted, he could make the stone colossus look like himself – a refined artist. However, he did not come up with such an idea and in this I will admit that Traba is better than Dunikowski. The experienced sculptor knew perfectly well that the client knew nothing about jokes and simply expected a monument – a symbol of worship to Soviet power. The sculptor arranged the expected figures, allegories, symbols with a sickle and a hammer in the correct proportions. It came out a bit nightmarish and very gloomy, but hard, sharp and unequivocal: we rule here. That was what mattered and the customer was satisfied.
In addition, Dunikowski always served the authorities and those who paid. He demanded the highest rates. He then also took a fortune for the gallows, although according to witnesses and documents he himself did not work too much on the monument.
A few weeks ago, Traba tried to rouse the dormant defenders of the gallows and urged them to sign an online petition to preserve the Soviet memorial. He hoped that at his signal the nation would rise to defend the gallows. In the end he had to admit that he had failed. All 500 people signed it, including only 300 from Olsztyn and the surrounding area. And yet the actions were supported by left-wing activists, led by Grzymowicz. This is confirmed by the results of a survey commissioned by the town hall in May last year by opinion polling agency IBRIS: only 6% of respondents from Olsztyn were in favor of keeping the gallows in its current state and in its place.
Every day of the functioning of the gallows in Olsztyn’s public space – a symbol of lies and slavery – is another dose of shame for the inhabitants that is administered to us by Grzymowicz, Traba, Małkowski and the like.
