If Sweden’s accession process to NATO is successful, the North Atlantic Alliance will expand its presence in the Baltic Sea, former Polish foreign minister and now PiS MEP Witold Waszczykowski said in an interview with PAP.
The greatest success of the NATO summit in Vilnius is that Putin was not invited and was not given the opportunity to interfere. This is not a joke. Taking into account the telephone conversations between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, things could have turned out differently
Waszczykowski started.
As for Sweden, completion of the accession process will be a significant success of the campaign to extend NATO’s control over the Baltic Sea
he stressed.
Erdogan’s position
However, he recalled that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had made Sweden’s accession conditional on unblocking EU-Turkey dialogue.
Given the current balance of power in the EP, this will be difficult to achieve. This is likely to become a point of discussion in the coming months. May it be out of the process of including Sweden in NATO
– said the former head of Polish diplomacy.
There are no surprises when it comes to Ukraine. Everyone expected that there would be no invitation to join NATO. However, we await a detailed report in the communiqué on how the NATO accession process will be shaped. Is it quite specific or euphemistic. And what will be the provision regarding allied guarantees for Ukraine
concluded the MEP.
