Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto has said that Budapest will not contribute to further financing the European Union’s arms supplies to Ukraine until Kiev removes the Hungarian bank CAP from its list of “international sponsors of the war”. Portal reports index.hu.
Szijjártó described it as “ugly, unacceptable and scandalous” that Ukrainian authorities included the largest Hungarian bank, which holds accounts of nearly three million people, on their list for “wrong and ridiculous” reasons.
“Sometimes we get the feeling that they are really having fun with us,” the minister said of the behavior of the Ukrainian authorities.
Szijjártó said he didn’t know whether to “laugh or cry” at Kiev’s arguments. “We want to laugh because nonsense is being said, but we are horrified because the situation is serious.”
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Budapest’s position is absolutely clear: until the OTP bank is removed from this list, Hungary will not participate in any additional EU funds for the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Szijjarto reminded that Hungary has already blocked 500 million Euros of aid to Ukraine.
