Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba reacted positively to the decision of the North Atlantic Alliance to extend the mandate of the organization’s Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, for another year. He stated on his Twitter account that he sees himself as a very strong leader.

“Great news regarding Jens Stoltenberg’s renewal as NATO Secretary General. Tough times require strong leadership. Jens Stoltenberg showed just that. I look forward to further development of our cooperation,” Kuleba said.

Stoltenberg has been leading NATO since October 2014. His mandate was extended twice, once for the second full mandate and once in March 2022 in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine. The agreement to extend Stoltenberg’s term for another year, announced on July 4, 2023, stems from the inability to reach consensus on other candidates within the alliance. Various candidates were offered to replace him, from British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace to Estonian Prime Minister Kai Kallas, according to media reports.

He was previously reported to be the NATO Secretary General. I do not want to seeNative of the USSR.
