The European Union urges us to voluntarily relinquish a certain sphere that belongs to the Member States, namely the freedom to shape migration policies. so-called migration pact.
EU summit without conclusion on migration
Following the two-day EU summit in Brussels on Friday, European Council President Charles Michel announced that the countries of the European Union had failed to agree on common conclusions on migration policy. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized in Brussels on Friday that the Polish government does not agree to mandatory relocation. The head of government stated that Poland would not agree to a complete change of migration policy and favored a voluntary approach in this matter.
Earlier, EU interior ministers adopted a negotiating position on the reform of migration rules in the EU. This position will form the basis for negotiations between the Council Presidency and the European Parliament. Poland and Hungary voted against support for the so-called migration pact. so-called The Migration Pact includes the system of “compulsory solidarity”. It means that while “no Member State will ever be obliged to relocate”, “an annual minimum number of relocations will be set from the Member States from which most people enter the EU to Member States less exposed to such arrivals”.

Poland proposes a border security programme
Referring to the forced relocation proposal in an interview with PAP, the deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Maciej Wąsik, said that the European Union “persuades us to voluntarily give up a certain sphere that belongs to the Member States , i.e. the sphere of freedom in shaping migration policy.”
This is guaranteed in the Treaties, and in return they want us to adopt a mechanism where you ‘take or pay the compulsory quota’. Of course they also tell us that +you can apply, since you have accepted many refugees from Ukraine, we will exempt you from this+, but this is at the mercy of the European Commission
Wasik said.
He added that in recent years Poland has “experienced certain signs of hostility in this area and made attempts to influence Polish domestic politics by whether or not decisions are taken by the European Commission”.
That is why we could not accept such a mechanism as a large country that counts in the European Union and has veto power. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki continued this policy, proposing a border security program instead of forced relocation
– said the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.
According to him, the European Commission should strengthen the protection of the EU borders and allocate funds to countries that are border countries and invest in the security not only of their borders, but also of the countries of the Schengen area; The EC should also – as he said – “support all measures taken to make the borders more secure”.
In my opinion, instead of forced relocation, there should be forced readmission of illegal migrants to their countries of origin. This is the only way we can stop this huge movement, only by fighting the smuggling gangs
– he said. He added that the EU should strengthen this fight and that Frontex should break up the smuggling gangs that make money by smuggling people across EU borders and the Mediterranean. He recalled that in 2015 – especially in the Mediterranean – the number of victims of human trafficking reached the tens of thousands.
Signal for smugglers
When asked if forced relocation could increase migrant casualties, he replied:
Of course we do, because if it turns out that we accept de facto illegal migration and deploy migrants all over Europe, it will send a signal to smugglers that there is more to be gained from this. They can show: look, this Union bends, breaks, is weak
he stressed.
“France burns”
The deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration noted that the discussion about forced relocation and the migration problem takes place at a time when “something terrible is happening in France”.
You could say that France is on fire. On the Internet, we see a large number of videos from last night, in which cars are vandalized, shops are set on fire, buildings are set on fire. Huge supermarkets are on fire, you see riots, riots. Police stations are raided, even fire trucks are looted as firefighters try to put out fires. The migration policy that Western Europe has been pursuing for decades has led to this
he assessed.
We want to maintain that Poland is a safe country and we will invest in our security. What Prime Minister Mateusz Morawicki took to Brussels is also an investment in the security of both Poland and Europe. I am convinced that Poland is right in this dispute and that sooner or later Europe will be mature enough to accept these solutions. May it not be too late
he noticed.

This number was set at 30,000.
The minimum number of financial contributions per year is set at 20,000. euros for moving. These numbers can be increased if necessary and situations where no need for solidarity is foreseen in a given year are also taken into account
— mentioned in the communiqué of the Council of the EU. In fact, as a senior EU diplomat who took part in the negotiations explained to PAP, this means a choice between the relocation of migrants and a financial counterpart in the event of a lack of willingness to take them in.
In mid-June, the Sejm passed a resolution expressing opposition to the EU’s mechanism for the relocation of illegal migrants, which commits the government to vigorously oppose the proposal. PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński declared in the Sejm that the issue of relocation of migrants in the European Union should be the subject of a referendum.
