“Given what is happening in Russia, we have done everything necessary to ensure the security of our country, the Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak said in Krynki in Podlasie on Sunday. He noted that the opposition’s stories are a false version of events.
On Sunday, Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak paid a visit to soldiers serving on Poland’s eastern border.
“We have done everything we can to ensure safety.”
During the briefing, the head of the Ministry of National Defense was asked whether the Polish government had taken all possible steps in connection with events in Russia on Saturday, as the opposition accused him of inertia.
Since we have a total opposition in Poland, the stories of opposition politicians form a whole
– assessed the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
Together with Prime Minister Morawiecki we were in Bogatynia, we talked about the details of this situation, how it developed. Then there was a meeting in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, chaired by Prime Minister Morawiecki. Later, there was a meeting at the National Security Bureau, chaired by President Andrzej Duda. Meanwhile, we consulted with our counterparts – the Prime Minister with the heads of government, and I with the defense ministers of the main allied countries, so we did whatever was necessary to ensure the security of our country
– said Minister Blaszczak.
As he noted, “the opposition should burn with shame because the stories it presents are a false version of events.”
“We strengthen the security of the country; the current PO-PSL opposition has liquidated military units”
The head of the Ministry of National Defense also referred to the Prime Minister’s words regarding the agreement Poland signed with the United States on August 15, 2020.
This agreement, signed on the centenary of our victory over Bolshevik Russia near Warsaw, enabled the rapid redeployment of US troops, the reinforcement of US troops (in Poland), when Ukraine was attacked by Russia
– pointed out to Minister Błaszczak.
As he noted, “we are strengthening our country’s defenses, we are strengthening security, and the PO-PSL opposition has liquidated military units, so we are dealing with people who acted at the expense of our homeland’s security.”
“March of Justice” Prigozhin
On Friday, the owner of the mercenary Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, claimed that Russian army troops attacked his militants’ camp, causing numerous casualties. He announced a “restoration of justice” in the army and demanded the removal from power of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu who had been in conflict with him. The Wagnerians captured the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov-on-Don and then sent their troops to Moscow.
However, after 24 hours, on Saturday night, Prigozhin announced a withdrawal and the withdrawal of mercenaries to field camps to “avoid bloodshed”. This would be the result of negotiations between the Belarusian authoritarian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenko and Prigozhin, conducted in consultation with Vladimir Putin.
Response of the Polish authorities
Saturday at June 20, President Andrzej Duda convened a meeting at the National Security Bureau with the participation of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers and special services.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki previously met with the ministers of national defence, interior affairs and administration, as well as representatives of Polish services in the prime minister’s chancellery.
President Andrzej Duda said Saturday morning consultations were held with the Prime Minister and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as allies, regarding the situation in Russia.
The course of events beyond our eastern border is continuously monitored
