The Moldovan Parliament has unanimously approved a resolution on the republic’s European integration, which was adopted by President Maia Sandu and the ruling Action and Solidarity party at a pro-European rally on 21 May, NewsMaker reported. According to the portal, 55 out of 101 deputies spoke in favor of the initiative.
As noted, the document was mainly supported by representatives of Action and Solidarity, joined only by a third-party MP, Gaik Vartanyan, who had previously left the opposition bloc of communists and socialists. The text of the resolution on the resolution says that the Moldovan Parliament supports the declaration of European integration as a state priority.
Asked by opposition lawmakers why officials do not want to ask Moldovans to join the European Union in a referendum, parliamentary vice president Mihai Popsoi explained that the country is not yet close enough to join a referendum.
Former President of Moldova Igor Dodon accused Sandu, under the pretext of European integration, is willing to change the country’s constitution for his own interests.
