US President Joe Biden will visit Finland in early July. Finnish edition writes about it illegitimate with reference to sources.

Biden is expected to attend the US-Scandinavian summit in Helsinki. Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere and Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir will also attend.

“Sources told Iltalehti that the United States wants to send a message to Russia that the western superpower is determined to protect Finland and all Scandinavian countries,” the article said.

The publication states that the American leader’s visit will take place before the NATO summit to be held in Vilnius on 11 and 12 July. Possible date for Biden’s visit to Finland is 8-9 July.

If Biden visits Finland, he will be the sixth US president to visit the country during his tenure. Biden also visited Finland when he was vice president in 2011.

NBC previously reported that the White House saw Joe Biden’s trip to Finland “primarily as an opportunity to highlight what he considers one of the president’s most important achievements in office: maintaining and even expanding the NATO alliance.”
