Our intention is to cooperate with Sovereign Poland, but you have to set realistic expectations. The SP has support at the level of 0.7 or 1 percent, it is difficult for such a party to demand more serious proposals on the electoral lists, said government spokesman Piotr Müller.
Müller was asked on Channel One of Polish Radio on Tuesday about the relationship between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Justice Minister and leader of sovereign Poland Zbigniew Ziobro.

In an interview for “Do Rzeczy”, Zbigniew Ziobro, the Minister of Justice, the leader of Sovereign Poland, stated that “Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has made a mistake in all major EU decisions” and “as a result of agreeing to the EU conditionality mechanism and KPO, Poland will gradually lose its sovereignty.” In response to Ziobro’s statement from the interview, Morawiecki said, among other things: that he is reminded of the proverb that “a cow that moans a lot gives little milk” and that, listening to the words of the Minister of Justice, “sometimes the impression that Poland loses its sovereignty five times a year”.
On Monday, the Polish Minister of Justice proposed to the Prime Minister to hold a substantive debate on ways to opt out of the Fit for 55 package. During the press conference, Müller judged that a meeting of the Council of Ministers would be a good place for such a debate.
“The difference of opinion is fundamental”
When asked about the tension between Morawiecki and Ziobro, the government spokesman said it was a “dispute, not a conflict”.
The disagreement is indeed fundamental on several points; this means that Minister Ziobro mainly expresses a false statement about the Fit for 55 package. At the summit (of the European Council – PAP) we did not discuss the adoption of the Fit for 55 package in 2020; regulations and directives in this area are dealt with by the Council of the European Union, ie ministers, not heads of government; Unfortunately, there is a qualified majority in the Council of the EU
Muller said.
We do not have a majority there, we vote against, but the regulations are adopted. (…) This is also the problem of how the European Union functions at all
– added the government spokesman, pointing out that regulations are currently being pushed through that pursue the interests of the richer countries of Western Europe “with no respect for countries undergoing an energy transformation from a different point of view”.
Müller also drew attention to MS’s activities, eg to improve the work of the courts. According to him, “too much energy” has been put into “several laws that – also in terms of the speed of proceedings – could be replaced by management processes in the courts”.
“It takes two to tango”
When asked about PiS and Sovereign Poland’s plans to contest the parliamentary elections together, Müller stated that “this is our intention”.
It only takes two to tango. If both parties are ready for such an agreement, then it is easier; realistic expectations should also be raised. Let’s look at the polls – I know they are not always the most important, but Solidarna Polska has 0.7%, 1% …
– he said, emphasizing that there is not much here and “it is difficult for such a party to demand serious proposals on the electoral lists”.
When asked what PiS’s SP demands were, including in terms of places on the electoral lists, Müller indicated that he would not participate in the negotiations, but they were “disproportionately large compared to what they should have”. When asked how many seats he thinks the SP should get, he replied that he was in favor of “large representation of PiS members on the lists”.
