The US plans to expand sanctions against Russia and blacklist more than 300 suspects, as well as cut 70 structures linked to Moscow from American exports. TASSrefers to a senior US administration official.

The official explained that Washington’s new sanctions will affect not only Russia but also third countries.

“We will continue to tighten the export control regime to make it even more difficult for Russia to maintain its war machine,” he said.

He added that this would mean major restrictions on the categories of goods Moscow imports that are important to the battlefield, and cuts from US exports of some 70 establishments in Russia and third countries.

He noted that Washington will announce that it will impose sanctions on more than 300 people, organizations, ships and aircraft of the Russian Federation. The restrictions will affect the suppression of evasion of sanctions, the actions of financial intermediaries, as well as Russia’s future energy and other mining capacities. We will also mention other actors who have helped support special operations.

According to a representative of the US administration, sanctions powers will be extended to additional sectors of the Russian economy, which are key to the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to organize a military special operation to protect Donbass, in response to a request for assistance from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

The decision to run the operation became the justification for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
