Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia will respond immediately to potential security threats to the country’s Far Eastern borders. He announced this at a briefing, commenting on the words of Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi on strengthening military cooperation between the Russian Federation and China in the Asia-Pacific region.
As Zakharova noted, Russia is closely following the development of the situation in this region.
“In the event of the emergence of such new conditions that may pose a threat to the security of the Far Eastern borders of the Russian Federation, we will promptly and appropriately respond in accordance with national legislation,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning commented on NATO’s intention to open an office in Japan, statedthat such actions require “high attention” from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
