I would like to thank all those who have spent years striving to strengthen Poland, which was weak when it emerged from behind the “Iron Curtain” in 1989, economically “poor,” said President Andrzej Duda during the national holiday on May 3 at Castle Square.
In his speech, Andrzej Duda referred to the fact that Poland has been a free country since 1989.
Every year, many times – I fulfill the office of President of the Republic of Poland by your choice – I thank all those who have fought for this free Poland for generations, including my parents’ generation, people of “Solidarity”, thanks to whom we regained this freedom, sovereignty and independence in 1989
said the chairman.
From this place I would like to thank everyone who, over the years, has striven to strengthen this Poland, which was weak when it came out from behind the “Iron Curtain” in 1989, economically poor, with such terrible complexes, with an old, often destroyed industry, Poland, which was such a greedy morsel at the same time, with a population of 38 million – huge on a European scale, with its unusual location in the heart of Europe, with an area of 312 km2, with an extraordinary development opportunity that it has always carried within it for centuries, enabling it to be this great Second Republic
– emphasized Andrzej Duda.
This constitution spoke of the Polish army as a shield for the nation. The Polish army has a duty to defend the nation, and the nation has a duty to be grateful to the Polish army. A nation at that time understood not only the highest class, the absolute ruling class, magnates and nobles. A nation conceived in a broader sense, for it included the bourgeoisie, but also the peasantry was noticed for the first time. How new was it then. Historians say that because it was so new, that’s why this constitution only lasted a year, why it was destroyed, they hurried because they had autocracy, where the Tsar was the master of the life and death of his subjects, where the people a mafia, not a subject. At the same time, this constitution brought with it the fear for these rulers that it would confuse the nations subordinate to them, that they would demand subjectivity
he noticed.
Safe Poland
The president also thanked those who worked to make Poland safe, strong and prosperous.
To everyone who did it responsibly
he said.
I would like to thank those who reformed Poland, changed it, removed the deposits of evil that remained after years of slavery, dependence, of the great nightmare from the East, of the Soviet Union, of Ruthenia, of Ruthenian
– added.
I would like to thank all those who have taken responsible decisions and pushed for Poland’s accession to NATO and the EU. Yes, who knows if, from the point of view of our sovereignty and independence, this was not one of the fundamental decisions? To become the political part of the free West, to become the military part of the great, mighty West. We have had bad historical experiences. Everything indicates that it has changed and will never come back. Today art. 5 NATO guarantees security because it guarantees allied support. It is reflected in the presence of NATO troops in Poland, the US military and other countries in the most sensitive places, including near the Polish-Ukrainian border, behind which Russia is waging a brutal, aggressive war against the independent, sovereign Ukraine.
– pointed out the president, adding that what happened in Ukraine in 2014 and what is happening now as a result of Russia’s actions resembles the partitions of Poland.
The conquest of other parts of the earth. Today, fortunately, there are people in Ukraine who help to repel the terrible aggressor. Thank you for being a country that supports our Ukrainian neighbors. I thanked you a year ago, my compatriots, for the support you give to your neighbors from Ukraine. Thanks again for that with all my heart. Today we come from the US, with the West, because we are the West. Also political. We have something in common with the US. Perhaps we should look at those two constitutions through the prism of why they were adopted by our compatriots. For the freedom that the Americans and we Poles wanted. This golden political key to freedom, our constitutions, turned out to be the key to development for the US, to growth on the scale of a world power
– said President Duda.
It’s harder for us, but I believe there’s a good future ahead of us. I say this to say that it is a matter for the Polish authorities, but also for all generations – present and future. For Poland, Polish affairs. A strong state can exist and survive here. Weak states will be subservient – history clearly shows that. So either the next generations and the next politicians who will manage the affairs of the Republic of Poland will build a strong, independent and sovereign Republic of Poland, or it will in fact not be our Poland. Or it will be Poland, where there are other gentlemen – not invited, not summoned, who come to us at our request, within the framework of closed alliances. But uninvited guests, foreign lords who wanted to be driven out of Poland, and who spent most of the eighteenth century raging to destroy Poland. This is our great responsibility. I say ours, because fortunately today we are a democratic country, a country where power depends on the decision of the nation, enshrined in that constitution of May 3, which is written as sovereign in every subsequent constitution of independent Poland. The one who decides. So let him decide. For this I appeal to you! That you implement our democracy, that you participate in elections – all of them
– added.
