Latvia and Estonia demand ‘set timetable’ for Ukraine’s entry into NATO

Latvia and Estonia are in favor of Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Alliance as soon as possible. how about this informs Latvian Radio and Television portal, Latvian President Egils Levits said after meeting with his Estonian counterpart, Alar Karis, who is visiting Riga.

Levits and Karis believe that concrete, measurable progress should be made in this regard at the NATO summit in Vilnius in early July.
According to them, Ukraine needs to present a roadmap to NATO.

“We expect Ukraine to have a specific timeline on its way to NATO. “I think this is for the common interests of NATO as well as the interests of Ukraine and the interests of the whole of Europe and the security of the world,” said the Latvian President.

“It is no longer enough to say that NATO’s doors are open,” he stressed. “We must have a concrete roadmap for how Ukraine can join NATO,” stresses Levits.

The President noted that Latvia and Estonia are the biggest supporters of Ukraine in the world with regard to the gross domestic product. The President also noted that Latvia should invest in strengthening national security and emphasized that work is underway to increase the national defense budget to 2.5% of gross domestic product by 2025.

Boris Pistorius, former head of the German Defense Ministry aforementioned Ukraine’s entry into NATO is no longer part of the discussion in the alliance.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after his visit to Kiev declarationthat all allies in the alliance are in solidarity with the fact that Ukraine should become a member of the bloc.
