Poland is already well advanced in building a multi-layered air defense system; There are American Patriots, British CAMM missiles or Polish Pioruny missiles. Our goal is a coherent and integrated system – said Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak on Thursday in Radom.
The Deputy Prime Minister observed the conduct of anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense training using the Wisła, Narew and Pilica systems, held at Warsaw-Radom Airport.
Błaszczak judged that Poland is already very advanced in building a multi-layered air and missile defense system. As he noted, Patriot launchers (as part of the Wisła system), iLaunchers with British CAMM missiles (Narew system), and the Pilica system appeared at the exercises in Radom.
“We are waiting for Pilica”, so it will be. These are artillery and missile sets, with a gun and Piorun missiles, soon CAMM will also be in these sets
– he said.
We also have Pioruns, ie very short-range anti-aircraft and missile defense kits. In addition, we also integrate the anti-drone system. Our goal is to build up individual layers (Air Defense System – PAP) to integrate them and make it a truly coherent system
Blaszczak added. He noted that the experience of the war in Ukraine plays an important role in building the Polish air defense system.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense said the Polish military deviated from post-Soviet organizational models, in which both air defense and land forces were responsible for air defense, often competing with each other.
Today we have one cohesive system, there is no rivalry between the army and the air force
he said. He added that the post-Soviet equipment is also being phased out, replaced by US production of the Patriot, British production of CAMMs and the indigenous Pioruny and anti-drone system, among others.
“The training was scripted.”
The Deputy Chief of the Armaments Bureau and the Plenipotentiary of the Minister of National Defense for the Construction of the Integrated Anti-Aircraft and Missile Defense System, Colonel Michał Marciniak, noted that the aim of the exercise was to establish a multi-layered air defense of a critical infrastructure facility, whose Radom airport played a role in the exercise.
The training was conducted according to the scenario, according to which the possibility of attack with ballistic missiles and winged missiles, as well as classic means of air strikes, was detected. The purpose of the exercise has been achieved, a layered defense has been organized, (…) procedures for commanding and directing a battle group have been developed. The capability that the armed forces have achieved through this training enables us to protect every critical infrastructure in the country
– said Colonel Marciniak, adding that the equipment used in Radom makes it possible to counter threats from drones weighing one kilogram to tactical ballistic missiles.
Since April 12, Radom has been training the anti-aircraft and anti-missile subunits of the 3rd Air Defense Missile Brigade, the 18th and 15th Anti-Aircraft Regiments, and the 15th Command Support Brigade. The main objective of the training is the planning of anti-aircraft and missile defense systems based on medium (Wisła), short (Mała Narew) and very short (Pilica) systems. This is the next stage of the preparation of the services for the performance of tasks related to ensuring the air safety of the Republic of Poland.
Airport training verifies the cooperation of individual systems as part of protecting key critical infrastructure facilities using the combat capabilities of individual anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems.
The PATRIOT fire group and the PSR-A PILICA anti-aircraft battery, separate from the 3rd BR OP, and the MAŁA NAREW battery of the 18th Infantry Regiment participate in the grouping. and anti-drone system.
