No political party, no politician should use the memory of John Paul II against another man – said the head of PO Donald Tusk during a meeting with the inhabitants of Kleosin (Podlaskie Voivodeship) on Thursday.
Tusk emphasized that Polish men and women will always remember Pope John Paul II as the one who helped us regain dignity and freedom and Poland’s independence.
No political party, no politician should use the memory of John Paul II against another man
said the head of the PO.
He pointed out that we were all affected by “this aggressive discussion” following the material recently shown on one of the televisions.
Then I remembered one of those meetings with John Paul II in Gdańsk in Zaspa. When John Paul II turned to us, I am talking about all those who brought with them banners of “Solidarity” that were then forbidden (…) We all waited for such words that encouraged to fight, to fight, and to the Holy Father then spoke these sad words about what solidarity actually is and, moreover, repeated at different meetings in different ways, but always with the same conviction, that solidarity is never one person against another, that solidarity is like bearing each other’s burdens
Tusk said.
The Story of “Solidarity”
And – as he added – “then enthusiasts like me thought – well, no, how is it that after all we are in this +Solidarity+ to fight someone”.
And several years passed before I understood that this real +Solidarity+ was a fight for something, not necessarily against someone
– pointed to the head of the PO.
And so, when this discussion about John Paul II flared up recently, I realized that everything that I think is so important to the state in recent years, in a sense happened, happened, happened under the auspices of, and often with the extremely effective aid of John Paul II
– said the leader of the PO.
Tusk also stressed that he had no doubt that “without the unequivocal, strong, clear words of the Holy Father, we might not have joined the European Union.”
When he spoke words about freedom, including freedom of speech, when he taught such basic decency, empathy between people, all this formed Poland, which we are so proud of today, even if every next day brings different unpleasant situations , but we all carry this pride in his heart from Poland, also thanks to his great commitment
Tusk emphasizes.
On March 6, TVN 24 broadcast a report by Marcin Gutowski, “Franciszkańska 3”, about what Kraków Metropolitan Cardinal Karol Wojtyła knew about cases of pedophilia among priests (1964-1978). It describes the cases of three priests: Bolesław Saduś, Eugeniusz Surgent and Józef Loranc, and the response of the then Metropolitan of Kraków to them. The report contained statements by the Dutch journalist Ekke Overbeek, the author of the book “Maxima Culpa. What the Church Is Hiding About John Paul II.
